There’s no right or wrong answer, every family has different needs, and every home has varying advantages and drawbacks. While deciding whether or not to move is ultimately a deeply personal choice, we’d like to offer our expertise to anyone that’s still on the fence. Below we’ve gathered the top 4 factors we think homeowners should consider before opting to pull up stakes and move! **Convenience. ** Remodeling certainly requires equal measures of patience and perspective, but moving is an entirely different animal. If you’ve lived in the same home for decades, moving is a massive project. Suddenly, a lifetime’s worth of possessions has to be organized, sorted, and packed! Yes, updating your home will interrupt your day-to-day routine, but it’s nothing compared to the stress of executing a significant move. **Location. ** You can always re-design your home. However, you have no control over the neighborhood. If you’ve already plugged into a community you love, have an ideal commute, or live just five minutes from the lake, then remodeling may be your best bet. An expert contractor can transform any space to better suit your needs; it’s what we do! However, we’re fairly certain that convincing the entire neighborhood to move with you is a far less attainable goal. **Equity.** When making any major home changes, it’s important to always work towards building greater equity. Obviously your home’s value is subject to a myriad of factors, but in the end, aren’t we all looking to increase resale value? Your family’s life stage is a helpful issue to consider most heavily when it comes to equity. If you’re planning to downsize, then strategic remodeling projects could improve your overall return. Starter homes are also well-worth investing in, often resulting in owners making a profit once they’ve outgrown them! **Priorities.** Ultimately, deciding whether to remodel or move depends a lot on your design preferences. Try asking yourself what style elements you value the most. One-of-a-kind charm? Modern amenities? An effortless layout? One-level living? Once you’ve determined what features matter the most to you, then it becomes a lot easier to move forward.
